Attacking Palestinian farmers and their lands must stop!

On June 15, 2022, the following message arrived at Horyzon from Palestine:

Campaign's field attacked; sponsored olive trees uprooted

On Wednesday 8th June 2022, armed Israeli soldiers, with staff of the so-called "Israeli Civil Administration", and settlers from 'Efrata' colony (settlement), constructed on the Palestinian lands of Beit Jala and Al-Khader, attacked a Palestinian field in the village of Al-Khader, west of Bethlehem area.

The field, of around 4,000 m2, is owned by Issa Ahmad Salah and his family. Israeli soldiers destroyed and uprooted 95 olive trees that were planted in 2018. 50 of which were sponsored through the Keep Hope Alive - Olive Tree Campaign Dutch partner "Plant een Olijfboom". The uprooted trees were fruitful last year and were supposed to be harvested also this year.

The Israeli army claimed that the land is state land owned by Israel, while the farmer has the legal identification papers that demonstrate his ownership of the land.

We at the JAI call our friends and partners for solidarity and actions to support the resilience of Palestinian farmers, by sharing the story in social networks, sending messages to your Ministry of Foreign Affair and MPs in your respected countries, sponsoring more olive trees through the Olive Tree Campaign to save Palestinian lands to enhance the steadfastness of the Palestinian farmers towards keeping hope for a better future alive.

Attacking Palestinian farmers and their lands must stop!

Against this background, Horyzon's Joint Advocacy Initiative gains even more importance. More information can be found here.
