Running for a good cause. The 2h run turns the mileage into donations.
In the mid-1980s Horyzon brought the concept of the 2-hour run from the USA to Switzerland. The first run took place in Frauenfeld in October 1986 with 200 runners and total proceeds of CHF 62,000.
Since then, 145 sponsored runs have been organised at 23 different locations to volunteer for Horyzon's development projects. In the process, 28,000 participants covered 413,000 kilometres and generated proceeds of over 7 million Swiss francs.
Local organising committees are responsible for the organisation of the runs. Before the run, the runners look for as many sponsors as possible among relatives and acquaintances, clubs or companies who guarantee them a certain amount of money for each kilometre run. The distance covered by the runners is measured and multiplied by the promised amounts.
Part of the donation will go to the Horyzon project selected by the organising committee. Another part usually goes to a social project in the region.
Running donations are an important source of financing for our projects: They contribute more than 10 % to their financing.
