Emergency aid in Gaza shows effect: almost 400 families reached
In August, YMCA World launched an emergency appeal for the local youth association YMCA Gaza, a former partner organization of Horyzon. Together with the global YMCA network and numerous other organizations, a fundraising campaign was organized with the aim of raising 50,000 US dollars for urgently needed food. Horyzon also contributed financially.
YMCA World now reports: Thanks to the solidarity of over 15 national YMCA associations and numerous individual donors, the amount has now been almost doubled. Almost 100,000 US dollars have already been received. With the support of local partners in Gaza - including the Catholic and Orthodox churches - food parcels were handed over to almost 400 families in September and October. YMCA Gaza continues to be involved on the ground, supporting food supplies during the current famine and providing psychosocial support for affected people.
But despite the aid already provided, the need continues to grow: according to the WHO, over half a million people in Gaza are currently affected by the famine - and the number is rising sharply. Every support counts to reach people with food and humanitarian aid.
