"Doin' it right"
Developing strengths, seizing opportunities
Togo has made progress in recent years, but the country still faces significant social and economic challenges. Youth unemployment remains high, and many young people work under difficult conditions without adequate social protection. The justice system is overwhelmed, particularly when dealing with young offenders, leading to long delays in court proceedings.
This is where the "Doin' it Right" project steps in to support young people who have come into conflict with the law or are at risk of doing so. The project provides comprehensive psychosocial, legal, and social support, aiming to ensure that these young individuals are not left to face their challenges alone, both physically and mentally. A key aspect of the project is working with the young people's families and social environments. This early involvement helps prepare them for their return to the community while they are still incarcerated, increasing their chances of successful reintegration. Within the prisons, the young people form legal clubs to offer each other legal support and receive guidance from volunteers and project staff.
Furthermore, the project implements targeted measures to strengthen the young people’s resilience, including vocational and educational reintegration programs. Close collaboration with state authorities and the active involvement of families help minimize the risk of recidivism after release. Through these efforts, the "Doin' it Right" project creates new opportunities for a brighter future for young people in Togo.
