"Paza la Paz"

A step towards peace

Despite positive developments, violent clashes between armed groups continue to occur in various regions of Colombia, with young people repeatedly being forcibly recruited for their activities. In rural areas of the country in particular, the security situation is unstable and opportunities are limited, which severely affects the daily lives of many families. The political situation is also a constant source of insecurity - the population has long wanted stability and peace in their country.

The Horyzon project "Paza la Paz" supports young people who are growing up in this difficult environment. It teaches them important life skills, strengthens their mental health and encourages them to take responsibility in their communities instead of engaging in illegal activities. Through the project activities, the young people learn how to resolve conflicts peacefully, understand their emotions better and play an active role in society. For example, they are given the opportunity to take part in various thematic training courses and courses on the subject of professional independence and to develop their own projects such as small market stalls to sell products they have made themselves. With the support of specialists, they learn how to create their own sources of income and build a professional future.

As "Paza la Paz" has been running successfully since 2004, Horyzon is planning to gradually withdraw from the project in the coming years. The aim is for the local partner organization YMCA Colombia to continue the project independently, probably from 2029. Until then, Horyzon will continue to provide technical support to the partner organization in order to ensure a sustainable handover and stable continuation.
