"Paza la Paz"

A step towards peace

Almost ten years ago, the Colombian government and the country’s largest guerrilla group signed a joint peace agreement aimed at ending decades of conflict and establishing a lasting ceasefire. However, this has only been partially successful, as violent clashes between armed groups continue. Moreover, the long-term consequences of the conflict persist: the population suffers from intergenerational trauma. Today’s youth are particularly affected—not necessarily by direct experiences of the conflict but by deeply rooted emotional wounds passed down from parents and grandparents.

To address this challenge, "Paza la Paz" will be restructured in 2025 to focus on two main areas: promoting societal well-being and strengthening the livelihoods of young people. These areas will be explored with participants aged 14 to 24 through various workshops and activities. They will learn to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts peacefully, and create a personal life plan for their future.

Through this process, young people can enhance their psychosocial skills and develop leadership competencies in dedicated courses. They then act as multipliers in their social environments, addressing topics such as mental health. Additionally, participants are encouraged and supported in improving their prospects in the job market. They have opportunities to start their own small businesses or gain access to vocational training. These initiatives enhance their financial opportunities and career-related skills.

By combining strengthened mental health with improved economic prospects, new pathways open up for the youth, contributing to their personal growth and, in the long term, to the promotion of peace in the country.
